At Red Rooster Ranch, we breed and raise health-tested, purpose-driven Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) on our working homestead in Southern California. With over 16 years of hands-on experience with breeds like the Anatolian Shepherd, Great Pyrenees, and Gampr, our program is designed to meet the real-world needs of small farms, family homesteads, and acreage properties across the West Coast.

We know firsthand how hard it is to find reliable, sound LGDs with true guarding instincts, especially in regions like California where predator pressure and climate create unique challenges. That’s why every dog in our program is selected not just for pedigree, but for temperament, structure, working ability, and proven lineage — and raised with a focus on holistic health and longevity.​

Our dogs are more than guardians — they’re part of our daily rhythm. From birth, each pup is raised in a working environment alongside goats, poultry, cats, and other livestock. We feed a raw, species-appropriate diet to promote muscle development, dental health, and optimal growth, and we avoid common health disruptors by:

• Minimizing vaccines (only essential core vaccines after maternal antibodies wane)

• Avoiding chemical pesticides and topical flea/tick treatments

• Eliminating toxic yard sprays, wormers, or grain-based kibble diets

• Supporting immune systems naturally with herbs, minerals, and species-appropriate supplements
   

This chemical-free, nutrient-dense approach gives our puppies a strong foundation — inside and out — for the working lives they’re being prepared for.​

 

Proven Genetics. Health-Tested Parents.

We believe that form should follow function. All of our breeding dogs are:

• OFA tested for hips and elbows

• DNA screened for breed-specific conditions

• Selected for temperament and work ethic
   

We only breed when we have a purpose and a plan — and only when both parents meet our health, temperament, and structural standards. Our foundation female, Tairneanach, will begin her breeding journey in 2026, paired with a local AKC Anatolian stud who meets the same strict requirements.
